Summer Activities in Lungau

Our Summer Highlights 2012 - read more (pdf)

Summer meets peace and quiet. Pure air in the valley and on the mountains. Time is in a different dimension. Your thoughts become free. Summer in Lungau. A walking tour as a way of experiencing your surroundings. Feel nature, taste the fruits, sense the heights. Let your eyes take in a whole panorama. Young mountains, three thousand metres high or more, define the horizon.

Going walking in the marvellous "Lungau" mountain world

In the Lungau holiday region, around 60 crystal-clear mountain lakes, shimmering crystal-clear and ranging from emerald green to silver, invite you to go for walks that offer you a great deal to experience; as they do, they recount old stories and sagas, such as those of the Frimlgeist in the Weißpriachtal valley, the witches’ dance on the Speiereck or those of the secretive Kasmandl.
On your way there, you discover numerous types of gentian and orchids, thistles and much more besides, or you savour the breathtaking view while enjoying a good hearty snack.

A whole range of possibilities for walking, covering all levels of difficulty and for all the family. Over 100 km of marked walking paths, marvellous landscape, cycling paths, strolling paths and recreation in the Carinthian lakes close by; the Lungau plateau offers you all this, protected by a garland of wonderful mountains, far away from hustle and bustle, far away from worries, for the whole family!

Nordic Walking in Lungau

... is not just a matter of walking with the use of sticks; it is a properly-thought-out training system. The Nordic Walking stick made of "carbon", with a specially-shaped handle and an adjustable strap, as well as a special end-point and an asphalt bath

Is 40 to 50 % more effective than walking without sticks

- ideal training to develop stamina
- you attain the optimum basis for burning body fat  (ca. 400 cal. / h)
- reduces the load on knee joints, spine and hips
- tautens the musculature of the shoulders and chest while strengthening the arm musculature at the same time
- dissolves muscle tensions in the back of the neck and in the shoulder area
- one unit of Nordic Walking includes warming up, strengthening, and correct mastery of the technique for walking with sticks; it is rounded off by stretching exercises at the end

Doing sport out in open nature is especially enjoyable, whether it is on your own or in a group. The Lungau offers a little paradise to our health-conscious, sport-conscious guests.

Cycling in the Lungau plateau

The Lungau offers its guests a cycling network which is rich in diversity. The terrain also offers specially prepared stretches for motor biking, covering the range from beginners to advanced.

You can use 550 km of marked cycling paths offering the broadest range of levels of difficulty.

For the most part, the cycling part is asphalted and very well suited to families.

We also have many opportunities on offer for mountain bikers to take on the challenge of the mountains. A range of levels of difficulty (from the beginner to the professional) offer something for everyone.

And anyone who nevertheless finds all of this too strenuous, can enjoy Lungau’s natural landscape in full measure with our new.

Golfing holiday in the Lungau

The wide, sunny and flat valley basin of the Lungau is the home of the 18-hole tournament facility, built taking into account the latest thinking on ecological and landscape-design issues; those in the know say that this course is one of the loveliest and most challenging for a player in the whole of Salzburg Province. Yet, with its interesting playing variations, it is equally appealing to novices and to excellent golfers with single-digit handicaps. The impressive meadow landscape is characterised by ponds, damp biotopes and the Mur river – which is crossed by golf strokes at two points in the course. The 9-hole par-3 facility provides the golf beginner with an instant opportunity to really experience golf!

The facility is rounded off by a 280 m long driving range, with roofed tee-offs, generously-dimensioned pitching, chipping and putting greens, practice bunker, a first-class golf school and a well-equipped Golf Pro Shop.

Flying model aircraft, surrounded by the Lungau mountains

Particularly for flyers of model planes, the airfield in Unternberg (4 km from Mauterndorf) is a genuine paradise.
In the middle of the large sunny meadows of the valley, at a height of 1,025m above sea level, and bedded in between the Mooshamer Moor, the Moosham Castle and Unternberg, is the model airfield of the MFC Lungau. With a guest card (free of charge, of course, for guests of our house!), model aircraft can be flown each day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at our well-tended lawn runway (150 x 20 m).

The airfield is authorised for model aircraft weighing up to 20 kg and with a noise level up to max. 80 dB. Conditions are ideal for large models and for “F-Schlepp” (the club’s own towing machine). The thermal, the wonderful panorama, the chance to swap stories and impressions with fellow enthusiasts in the cosy clubhouse, the hearty traditional Lungau fare and predominantly Austrian cuisine: all these things give this sport its crowning touch.
